Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival is this weekend, plus city Halloween events and sign-up deadlines
The free 30th Annual Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival runs Saturday and Sunday at Selby Five Points Park. City Halloween events follow later in October, and two of them require registration by Oct. 20 or Oct. 21.

The 30th Annual Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival fills Selby Five Points Park, 1 Central Ave., on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17 and 18. It runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, and the City of Sarasota's event listing shows admission as free.
The park is downtown at the intersection of Central Avenue and First Street.
Two sign-up deadlines next week
Two of the city Parks and Recreation Department's Halloween events require registration in advance. Pumpkin Splash runs Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Arlington Recreation Center, 2650 Waldemere St. Participants swim to pick a pumpkin from the instructional pool, and the city provides carving and decorating supplies. The cost is $10 per pumpkin, including the swim fee. Registration is through eTrak and must be completed by Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Trick-or-Triples is a Halloween tennis tournament on Friday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Payne Park Tennis Center, 2050 Adams Lane, for teams of three to four players at any skill level. Entry is $50 per team, and teams must register in person at the tennis center by Wednesday, Oct. 21. The city encourages costumes and will award prizes to the winning team and the best-costumed team.
Halloween events at Arlington Park
The Haunted Trail Carnival runs Friday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. along the walking trail at Arlington Park, 2650 Waldemere St., with free carnival-style games and treats. The same evening, Bark-o-Ween holds a dog costume contest with dog-friendly prizes. Owners check their dogs in at the trail entrance and can walk the Haunted Trail with them on a leash.
Trunk-or-Treat needs volunteers
Trunk-or-Treat is Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, 1845 34th St., and is free to attend. It includes trick-or-treating, a haunted house and prizes for the best trunk decorations and costumes. Residents who want to decorate a vehicle trunk and hand out candy must sign up by emailing Mark.Horvath@SarasotaFL.gov.
The department posts more event details on its Let's Play Sarasota calendar at letsplaysarasota.com.
